The City of Ashland is accepting applications for the position of
 
 
PUMP STATION TECHNICIAN
Public Services & Utility Operations Department /
Water Distribution/Meter Services Division
 
 
Supervisor:     Water Distribution Field Supervisor
Supervises:     May Supervise Other Employees Assigned to Project
Grade:             110 
 
Class Characteristics:  Under general direction, assists in the operation and maintenance of pump stations, water tanks, and other mechanical equipment.
 
General Duties and Responsibilities:  Assists with inspection, operation and maintenance of water pumping stations, reservoirs, and tanks.   Operates light to medium vehicles and equipment.  Supervises safe and efficient operation of equipment.   Detects equipment malfunctions, completes minor repairs, and makes recommendations for major repairs.  Performs preventive maintenance duties on equipment.  Cleans and properly stores equipment and tools after use.  Prepares and maintains required reports and records.  Requisitions equipment, tools, supplies, and materials.   Maintains lawn at pump stations and tank sites.  Determines need and assists in preparation of budget requests.  Assumes the duties of a crew leader when necessary and assists in performance of duties.  Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Training and Experience:   Graduation from high school or equivalent supplemented by work experience and education acceptable by the KY Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Cabinet to have obtained a Class III WD Operator License, or a Kentucky Master Electrician License, and upon eligibility, obtain and maintain a Class IV WD Operator License.  Vocational school graduate with major course work in mechanics or electrical preferred, but not required.  Must possess and maintain a valid drivers’ license (commercial drivers’ license preferred but not required).
 
Overtime Provision:  Non-Exempt.    Minimum Beginning Salary:  $18.022 per hour
 
Availability and Travel:  Must be able to respond to calls in emergency situations at any time.
