 EQUIPMENT OPERATOR II/III

 

Utilities Department,

 Wastewater Collection (WWC) Division &

Water Distribution/Meter Services Division

 

Supervisor:     WWC/WD Field Supervisor / WWC/WD Crew Leader

Supervises:     EOIII May Supervise WWC/WD Operators in Absence of Crew Leader

Grade:            106 EOII  $27,614 - $38,658,   108 EOIII $32,959 - $46,144

 

Class Characteristics:   Under general supervision, operates light to medium vehicles and equipment, EOIII operates all heavy equipment, involved in maintenance and installation of wastewater or water lines; performs maintenance worker duties when not operating equipment or vehicles.

 

General Duties and Responsibilities:  Operates light to medium vehicles and equipment necessary to construct and/or maintain wastewater lines or water lines, lift stations, and related facilities.  EOIII operates all heavy equipment (backhoe, trencher, trucks) to construct or maintain water distribution system, wastewater lines, and lift stations.  Assists in the installation of sewer taps and correcting problems in sewer lines.  Performs preventive maintenance duties on equipment and vehicles; cleans vehicles and equipment after use.  Detects malfunctions in equipment and makes minor repairs or recommendations for major repairs.  Responsible for the proper operation of equipment and the following of traffic safety regulations.  Performs WWC or Water Distribution Operator duties when not operating vehicles and equipment.  Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Training and Experience:  Graduation from high school or equivalent supplemented by three (3) years for EOII, five (5) years for EOIII, of construction work experience, including the operation and maintenance of construction equipment and vehicles. Attendance at vocational school in related field desired, but not required for EOIII.

 

Certification/Licensing Requirements:   Must possess and maintain a valid commercial drivers’ license (CDL) as a condition of continued employment in this class.    

 

Availability:   Must be able to respond to calls in emergency situations at all hours.
