The City of Ashland is accepting applications for the position of



Public Service Department, Fleet Maintenance/Solid Waste Division



Supervisor:      Solid Waste Supervisor

Supervises:      None

Grade:               102, 104


Salary Range: SWWI: $22,880 - $28,681 SWWII: $23,000 - $32,992


Class Characteristics:   Under general supervision, performs unskilled manual labor in the collection, transporting and disposal of refuse; performs related work as required.   


General Duties and Responsibilities:    Collects garbage and trash on assigned daily routes. Participates in city-wide clean-up campaigns by collecting above normal amounts of yard trash and discarded household items.  Assists in performing minor repairs on collection vehicles; assists in cleaning and sanitizing collection vehicle.  Report customer complaints to proper authority for investigation and disposition.  May operate sanitation collection vehicles occasionally.



Training and Experience:   No education or previous work experience requirements.  Must obtain high school diploma or equivalent in order to be considered for another position within the city service.


Certification/Licensing Requirements:   Must possess and maintain a valid drivers’ license as a condition of continued employment in the class.

SWWI Must obtain a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) prior to completion of original probation and maintain thereafter.

SWWII Must possess a commercial driver’s license (CDL) and have three (3) years of directly related work experience, subject to recommendation of the Department Director and approval of the City Manager.


Overtime Provision:  Non-exempt.
