Completed Employment Application forms are accepted at all times regardless of whether or not vacancies exist. The applicant must state the position(s) applied for on the form. The Employment Application form with appropriate attachments will remain current for a period of not longer than one year or until the applicant is considered for employment, whichever is shorter. It shall be the applicant’s responsibility to insure that the Application and information contained thereon remains current. When vacancies are advertised externally, all current Employment Application forms on file for the particular position will be placed in the employment process. The Employment Application and a listing of positions with requirements can be found in the Online Document Center. Current vacancies available to the public are listed under Employment Opportunities.

The Human Resources Director shall review all applications and insure that only applicants who meet the minimum qualifications for the position as established in the class specification are continued in the employment process. Applicants who meet the minimum requirements may be required to take a job related written examination that is validated. The passing grade for such examinations shall be a minimum of seventy percent (70%). Applicants may be required to submit to an oral interview. The Board of Commissioners must approve recommended applicants for appointment during the two monthly meetings held the first and third Thursday. Once a conditional offer of employment is made, applicants must submit to and receive medical clearance from a physical examination which includes a drug screen. Probationary appointments are for one year.

Benefits for employees other than those who are members of a bargaining unit covered by a current employment contract with the city include: participation in Kentucky Retirement System; health insurance at $15 per pay period for single, $30 per pay period for family; sick leave - 1 day/month accumulated to 120 days; two (2) weeks paid vacation; three (3) weeks paid vacation for exempt positions; $25,000 term life insurance; and ten (10) paid holidays per year.
