Kentucky law requires the flushing of Fire Hydrants across the City of Ashland at least once a year to allow the water flow to be tested and the clearing of minerals that may have deposited in the water lines.

4-19-18 Hydrant flushing will occur in the following grids:

A7, B5, B7, C5, D5, D6, D7, E5, E6, E7

Hydrant flushing will cause the water to appear rust colored for short periods of time as the minerals are stirred up. The water is safe to drink, but may stain clothing if washed while hydrants are being flushed. Please try to wait until the flushing is complete in your community before washing clothing. If you do find a discoloration of clothing, wash the wet clothing again before drying to remove the stains. Drying the clothing will set the stain.
