Engineering Assistant/ Storm Water Inspector

Information For

Supervisor:  Engineering Superintendent or Senior Engineering Assistant/Storm Water Coordinator    
Supervises: In Absence of Superintendent or Senior Engineering Assistant/Storm Water Coordinator, Independent contractors, and city crews on various city projects.
Grade: 110               
Minimum Starting Salary:  $20.382/hr., full-time

Class Characteristics: Under general direction, performs paraprofessional engineering work and inspection duties to ensure compliance with specifications, operates program for design procedures, and oversees contractor for utility patch program; performs related work as required. 

General Duties and Responsibilities:  Provides technical and operational assistance to supervisors and superintendents on construction projects proper materials, engineering techniques, and procedures are utilized.  Conducts field inspections, plat preparation, completes applications, and other necessary processes as necessary for projects and construction.  Maintains knowledge of all construction projects and compiles bid specifications.  Uses equipment and instruments to survey lines and computes, measures, and figures angles and distance.  Creates basic construction designs and specifications and conducts inspections to ensure contractors are complying with the plan.  Reports necessary information for monthly report and cost monitoring.  Serves as skilled draft person in AutoCAD and Computer Assisted Drafting for revising and updating utility line and road maps.  Compiles daily progress reports and field notes.  Supervises activities of survey party in absence of party chief and assists in supervising rodmen.  Operates equipment and maintains good working order.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Training and Experience:   Graduation from high school or equivalent, including or plus additional work-related courses supplemented by three years directly related work experience. Must acquire/possess and maintain Asphalt field technician and GPS and GIS training.

Certification/Licensing Requirements:  Must possess and maintain a valid drivers’ license.

Availability: Must occasionally work overtime.

Overtime Provision: Non-Exempt
