Ashland Police Traffic Accident Reconstructionist (TAR) are intensely trained collision officers. They have received their training at the Department of Criminal Justice Training (nationally certified academy) at a minimum of 240 hours, among other institutions such as I.P.T.M. These officers are called to the scene of all serious as well as fatality vehicle traffic crashes.

For traffic collision investigators, moments following the crash are crucial. Personnel reconstruct all traffic collisions involving fatalities, and selected collisions involving major personal injuries. An attempt is made to determine causation and factors in the collision. Sophisticated computer analysis aids in this task. Charges, when appropriate, are then brought forward. Hit and Run investigations and collisions involving Ashland vehicles are also investigated by the Traffic Section. Traffic Section Reconstructionists are also called upon to assist other agencies with their crash investigations, as well.
