The City of Ashland, Kentucky was awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR)  for the year ended June 30, 2016.  It is the 11th time overall this award has been achieved.  The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition for excellence in state and local government financial reporting.

The CAFR is prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and includes audited financial statements.  It provides detailed as well as full disclosure of all material events, both financial and non-financial.  The GAAP presentation also includes information on individual funds. 

In order to be awarded a Certificate of Achievement, a government unit must publish an easily readable and efficiently organized comprehensive annual report, whose contents conform to the highest program standards.  The report must satisfy both general accepted accounting principles and applicable legal requirements.

A certificate of achievement is valid for one year only.  We believe our comprehensive annual financial report continues to conform to the Certificate of Achievement program requirements, and we are submitting our comprehensive annual financial report for the current year to GFOA.
